Christian Bagnat
Work
Info
In this selection of drawings we see a recurring theme: the power exercised by religion and architecture on the social body and psyche. Christian Bagnat´s work pierces through these existential constraints making a disjointed and isolated body visible.
In the fumes of coal, the subtle and expressive power of his drawings reveal the face of the absence. There, where the street of a village is lost in a wasteland, the soul of a home undresses. Within this intimacy, the noises of furniture harmonize with the respiration and footsteps of its inhabitants.
Christian Bagnat has been awarded with the Cadiz Contemporary Arts Prize (2014) and has received grants from the CAM (Alicante, 2010), Fundación Botín (Santander, 2007) and Caja Madrid (2006). His work has been exhibited at the Casal Solleric (Palma de Mallorca), La casa encendida (Madrid) and the X Biennial of Art of Pamplona (2005). His work is in the collections of the Ortega y Gasset Foundation (Madrid), Fundación Caja Madrid, Barcelona City Council, the Marcelino Botín foundation (Santander) and the CAM Collection of Alicante.
