Collection: the foundational crime is the final project presented by the first generation (2011-2012) of graduates program at the Master of Curatorial Studies in Art History at the UNAM, composed by Roxana Aguilar, Muna Cann, Sofia Carrillo, Claudia Ferrer Julio Garcia Murillo, Amanda de la Garza, Alesha Mercado, Luis Alejandro Mosquera, José Luis Paredes Pacho, Ernesto Penaloza, Nuria Sadurni and Analia Solomonoff.
The show explores critically the collection and collecting as practices of art institutions. The title comes from a phrase of Georges Bataille, for whom the origin of the modern museum (understood as the possibility that the people access aristocratic collections) is possible only after the dissolution of monarchic relationships between power and knowledge that is, the death of the King by the guillotine and the founding of the Republic.
The exhibition brings together the work of eleven contemporary artists from Colombia, Peru and Mexico, from different generations: Neira Fernando Escobar (Colombia, 1973) Maria Sosa (Mexico, 1985) and Noah Martinez (Mexico, 1986), Vicente Razo (Mexico, 1971), Sandra Gamarra (Peru, 1972), Ulises Carrión (Mexico, 1941 – Holland, 1989), Felipe Ehrenberg (Mexico, 1943), Marianna Dellekamp (Mexico, 1968), Dulce Pinzón (Mexico, 1974), Mariana Castillo Deball (Mexico, 1978) and Rocio Ceron (Mexico, 1972).
